Purchase UMD Honey
The UMD Honey Bee Lab is carrying on a proud tradition of producing and selling honey from research colonies located on campus and at several Maryland farms. More than 150 colonies are utilized each year for honey bee health, epidemiological and best management research to inform both local and national beekeeping practices. Some of these apiaries are used specifically for extension and teaching, capitalizing on our expertise to share and engage with the strong community of Maryland beekeepers.
We offer honey for sale and pick up at the Plant Sciences Building loading dock on the 3rd Tuesday and following Thursday of every month from 11:30am–1:30pm, as long as supplies last.
Orders can be placed ahead of time by emailing Eric Malcolm at firstname.lastname@example.org. We hope to see you there!
For orders of $150 or more, alternate pickup dates may be arranged upon request.
The Plant Sciences Building loading dock driveway is accessible from Regents Drive. It is the first left turn if heading north from the Campus Drive M Circle. There is no sign marking the driveway, but this link should provide directions via Google Maps.
Honey bees are a vital agricultural component and the only managed pollinator in the US. More than 100 important crops are pollinated by honey bees. Honey bees forage on pollen and nectar sources around our Maryland farms, enjoying a wide range of wildflowers and flowering trees, which creates a superb and flavorful honey. Important floral sources for our bees include Maple, Tulip Poplar, Black Locust, clover, aster, and goldenrod. All honey sale proceeds directly support our research.
